Employer Accreditation

AEWV Employer Accreditation: Key Information for Employers

  • 3 Levels of Accreditation:

    • Standard: For businesses hiring up to 5 migrant workers.

    • High-Volume: For companies hiring 6 or more migrant workers.

    • Controlling Third Party: For businesses placing migrant workers with a third-party organization (e.g., labor hire companies).

  • How to Apply:

    • Select the appropriate level of accreditation based on your business needs and the number of migrant workers you plan to hire.

    • A fee is required based on the chosen accreditation type.

  • Fees and Job Check Payments:

    • You must pay a fee based on the level of accreditation.

    • A Job Check is required to confirm no suitable local workers are available, involving additional fees.

  • Processing Timeframes:

    • Due to changes made to the AEWV system on 7 April 2024, processing times have increased.

    • Check Wait Times Page on Immigration New Zealand website for up-to-date information on application processing times.

Ensure a smooth accreditation process by partnering with Kiwiana Immigration for expert guidance on AEWV requirements.

Job Check

Step 2: How to Apply for a Job Check

Applying for a Job Check is an essential part of hiring migrant workers through the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) process. Here’s a simple guide to help you navigate the Job Check step.

  • Advertise the Role:
Before applying for a Job Check, you may need to advertise the job to ensure there are no suitable New Zealand citizens or residents available. The job must be listed on a national platform where New Zealanders are likely to apply.

  • Advertising Requirements:

    • Advertise for 14 days if the job is ANZSCO level 1, 2, or 3.

    • Advertise for 21 days if the job is ANZSCO level 4 or 5.

  • Exemptions from Advertising:
You don’t need to advertise the role if it:

    • Pays at least NZD $59.32 per hour (twice the February 2023 median wage), or

    • Is listed on the Green List.

  • Engage with Work and Income:
If the role is ANZSCO level 4 or 5, you must engage with Work and Income. They will either list the job for up to 21 days or decide that they cannot fill the vacancy. After this, they will provide you with an Engagement Check, which must be submitted with your Job Check application.

Applying for a Job Check

  • Submit Your Job Check Application:
After accreditation and once the job advertisement period has ended, apply for a Job Check within 90 days. Each Job Check is valid for 6 months or until your accreditation expires.

  • Job Check Fees:
A fee applies for each Job Check application, and multiple jobs can be included in one application.

Processing Timeframes

Due to changes made on 7 April 2024, Job Check applications may take longer to process, especially if information is missing or follow-up is needed. For up-to-date processing times, visit Immigration New Zealand Wait Times Page.

Ensure a smooth hiring process by working with Kiwiana Immigration, your trusted partner for AEWV accreditation and Job Check applications.

Work Visa Application

Step 3: Ask the Migrant Worker to Apply for Their Visa

Once your Job Check is approved, the next step is to invite your migrant worker to apply for their Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV). Here’s what you need to know:

  • Check Qualifications and Experience:
Before asking the migrant to apply, ensure they meet the necessary skills, work experience, and qualifications for the role.

Timeframes for AEWV Applications

Due to changes made on 7 April 2024, AEWV applications are currently experiencing longer processing times. To stay updated, visit Immigration New Zealand Wait Times Page for the most recent information on application wait times.

Employer Obligations During AEWV Accreditation

After becoming an accredited employer, it’s crucial to continue meeting all AEWV employer obligations:

  • Notify us within 10 working days if there are any changes to key people in your organization.

  • If a migrant worker leaves and has more than 1 month before their visa expires, you must inform us if your accreditation was approved or renewed after 7 April 2024.

Renewing Your Employer Accreditation

Your initial accreditation lasts for 12 months, after which you’ll need to renew it. Renewals will last:

  • 24 months for standard businesses, provided your accreditation hasn’t lapsed for 12 or more months.

  • 12 months for franchisees or employers placing migrants with controlling third parties.

When renewing, you may need to provide evidence that your business is viable and that you’ve fulfilled your obligations during the previous accreditation period.

Kiwiana Immigration can help you navigate the AEWV process from start to finish, ensuring a smooth and compliant experience. Reach out to us for expert assistance in managing your AEWV obligations and renewals.
