International students planning to study in New Zealand now have another option under Immigration New Zealand’s Funds Transfer Scheme (FTS), following the addition of Bank of New Zealand (BNZ) as an approved provider.
According to Immigration New Zealand, eligible international students attending a New Zealand university or polytechnic can choose BNZ to transfer and hold funds for the duration of their studies.
The addition of BNZ gives eligible students more choice when considering how to manage their funds while studying in New Zealand.
What Is the Funds Transfer Scheme?
Immigration New Zealand’s Funds Transfer Scheme provides a way for eligible international students to transfer money to New Zealand and access it while they study.
The scheme is currently available to eligible students from China, India, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
Students should review the official scheme requirements before starting an application.
Which Banks Offer the Funds Transfer Scheme?
Following BNZ’s addition, the available provider options depend on the type of education provider a student will attend.
Bank of New Zealand (BNZ): Available to eligible students attending universities and polytechnics.
ANZ: Available to eligible students, including those attending Private Training Establishments (PTEs).
Students should compare the available options and apply to the provider that best meets their needs before beginning the Funds Transfer Scheme application process.
What Should International Students Know?
If you are planning to study in New Zealand, it is important to understand the financial requirements relevant to your student visa and the options available for transferring funds.
Before applying, you should:
Confirm that you meet the Funds Transfer Scheme eligibility requirements.
Check whether your education provider is a university, polytechnic or Private Training Establishment.
Compare the available FTS providers.
Read the latest Immigration New Zealand guidance before starting your application.
The availability of the Funds Transfer Scheme does not guarantee student visa approval. Applicants must continue to meet all applicable immigration requirements.
